Don’t Stand So Close To Me

So, I have this client who’d I’d seen for a couple of years. We hadn’t seen each other since April, and I had called her a couple of times to schedule an appointment. We have a really excellent working relationship.

She called me back, and we had this very nice conversation, but in it, she told me that she wasn’t going to be able to see me anymore because her new boyfriend couldn’t bear the thought that another man – even a gay man – would be laying his hands upon her. I suggested to her that he should come and get a massage from me to see just how non-sexual my work is.

I’m saddened by this – I’m not sure if I’m saddened more because I lost an excellent client or because attitudes like this still exist in the world.
